You Know what this means?

Yep Zuchinni season is underway in our garden and that means of course before we know it we will be over run with more than we can use if DH doesn' t pick it fast enough. I think there are 6 plants out there LOL Oh well, B&B and my neighbor Jean didn't plant them this year so I am really thinking they will be easy to find someone to eat the extra. DH brought in tons of Mustard greens last night so I will cook up a "big mess of greens" for dinner tonight for sure.
Had B&B and his sister M over yesterday for a few hours and it was nice to just sit around and chat for a bit. I know M was probably bored but that's OK...Aaron invited them to play Guitar Hero for a bit and they also went outside and played Bocci Ball for a short while.
OK still at work on the stitchery quotes for that Friendship quilt and I will take some new pics after I get home from quilt show receiving day today. I figure I will have some time there to work on several more of them and hopefully will be wrapping that part up soon.
Still need to do a few filler blocks and then comes the task of putting it together and I've been told it doesn't go together all that easily either. Sigh...
No scrapping today probably mainly because I need to get the trunk unloaded from the Sat Scottish Festival and my table is in there with a bunch of other stuff LOL I will get to it later.
I was reading the current Simple Scrapbooks and Stacey J had a great artical about how she usually makes lists and plans for her summer activities and decided to make a list of summer layouts she would like to get done in 10 of the summer weeks. They seemed to be very do-able ranging from doing a page with photos at least 5 years old to using a special color scheme found at the website www.simplescrapbooksmag.com I might try the list out if I can find the time LOL

At the Payson Scottish Festival

What a great day yesterday!
DH and I manned the MacRae booth/tent yesterday and it was a really nice day in Payson, Utah! They put on the "biggest free Scottish Festival in the US" or so they say. www.paysonscottishfestival.org
We joined other clans and vendors for a day long celebration of our Scottish heritage.
I took a break from the tent and took some pictures around the festival and met this Darling Scottish Deer hound...a rather rare breed in the Tribe of Mar tent and had a nice visit. His name is D'Artagnin (spelled wrong I know but I will correct later) and is about a year and a half old. He is from the west coast of the US and was a sweet guy and a bit shy. I know some people who would love to have a deer hound around to get rid of pesky deer who eat all their plants LOL
I think he might be a bit taken back at the size of the deer here in Utah as I understand they are much smaller in Scotland.
Here's DH and I ready to bring in our clan banner during the opening ceremony. We are wearing our new clan t-shirts and DH is wearing my newest ebay buy of ball caps.
I enjoy the sports at the festival but because our tent was far away from the field I only got to get a few glimpes of the action. Took a pic of one of the Sheaf Toss contestants as he begins his throw...he made it by the way!

We met lots of really nice people and added some names to our growing list of MacRae family members in Utah!

It's Friday!

For me Friday isnt' all that different from other days but for DH he is able to take the day off as he is mostly working 10's along with other meetings during the week and nights.
This week he did work half day so he was able to get in a short nap and run an errand to the local thrift shop DI...of course I sent him there to try and find some glass to replace some that got broken in a frame we use at the Scottish festival but of course he found a
"treasure" to bring home...I will share more on that later LOL

Tomorrow we head to Payson for their Scottish Festival and will be manning the MacRae booth. That is what I needed the glass for. More about that tomorrow too

Today I kind of did a bit of relaxing But did finally get the invites done for Camp Nana...as
you can tell the theme this year is going to be Trains. I used my Cricut to create the invitations and the tickets for Camp Nana using the My Community Cartridge.
I think they turned out cute but rather simple. I then printed the title and info on the computer but still needed to create the ticket so I cut some smaller trains on my Cricut and then added them to white rectangles. I used a 1/2 inch hole punch to make the cuts on the sides and my deckle scissors to make the "torn off look" on those same edges. I think they look pretty darn cute myself.
Used paper in my stash already so didn't buy anything to make them. They are 8.5x11 paper folded in half cause I wanted to get all the info inside.

This evening DH and I got together with his brother and sisters at a Mexican Resturant in Murray for their monthly get together. They enjoy talking about this and that and remembering their growing up times both good and not so good.

I did trace one more quote for my friendship quilt so I have a couple to work on as we sit at the booth tomorrow...I like to keep my hands busy LOL

Today's Hard work!

Hurray the star quilt is at the quilter! Finally!

So looking down the list these were the next two projects that I want to get done.
First is my version of the Jodi Warner book A Year of Flower Blocks. The flowers are 3-D along with a few buttons and embroidery make it a fun project.
Now to quilt and bind it...
Next are two of the quotes I did for the BOM Friendship Quilt from my groups last year...sigh. I had the best of intendions to get it done for this year's show next week but not going to happen.
Sad part is I kept up with all the pieced blocks but didn't get the stitchery ones done at the same time. Oh well it's a nice portable project LOL
Kept busy today and I did get in a nap afterall

AS I have been moving things around and putting labels on my containers in the scrapbooking room I found this stash of fibers that I had WAYYYY too much of so...

Morning everyone!
So couldn't sleep earlier and got up because I had dh's quilt on my mind. It should have been at the quilter's on Tues but here it is Thursday and I hadn't really found a back that was what I wanted so....took all the leftovers and one extra fabric...can you spot it? LOL
there is my quilt back! Just kept on adding to it until it was big enough. So I will take it to the quilter today! Promise!

While I was outside I walked over to the garden and took a couple of shots of random things.
The "stems" are from the Swiss Chard...I just thought they colors were so pretty to contrast with each other. DH planted a packet that had mixed varieties and it's interesting to see them growing all together. Of all the greens cooked I like chard the best.

Second garden shot is Belle exploring the "greens garden". She doesn't want to eat them but once in a while she will find a little garden snake slithering around and always looks.

OK I am officially tired from the early morning sewing and might just have to take a morning nap! LOL

Wed with Nana

The day began with a walk and Belle and I are enjoying it as long as we get out before 8 am...too hot to do any walking later in the day.
I invited my Granddaughter CharLee to spend a few hours with me and we had fun! We made Chicken Salad for lunch with grapes, mayo, cheese chunks and fresh chives from the herb garden. Quite yummy!
We went to DH's greens and cut a bit to pretty up our plates but decided not to eat them as they were mustard greens and too "hot" for us. I also let her pick a few pea pods and she decided that peas from the garden are very very good and not at all like the store bought canned peas! LOL
I took a picture of her showing off the peas and salad.
Then we went to a local small lake with hopes to catch a fish and dog-gone it she got a small trout but I knew we couldn't take it home since we had no license and no way to transport it. Unfortunatly it didn't survive all the handeling and went to fishie heaven. Too bad.
I helped out Beth a bit after I delivered CharLee home and played with a very fussy Alex.
I also took the opportunity to tack down the dimesional flowers while watching So You Think You Can Dance? and the wall hanging now needs to be quilted and bound and it will be finished. I also did some trial embroidery for my Friendship Quilt but didn't like it so took it out and will have to start over.
Ok that's about it for me today.

Had to share this recent picture of Alex and his facination with his rattle! It was so cute to see him starting to follow what he is seeing...oh my they grow so fast! I think I need a shirt that says that!

Quilt show and tell

My friend Eileen shows off her round robin quilt from a few years ago...she started with the four center blocks. I think it turned out wonderfully and everyone loved the tiny nine patches someone added!

Necia shows her latest project a table topper done very easily she says with strips and triangle cuts! It looks stunning and we all agreed we need to add it to future projects!

Quilt Day today

As usual it is my quilting day with my local group. I love both of my groups the day group allows for a lot of different things since we meet each week and the night group ladies have become good friends and are almost always ready to jump into something new! LOL
Day group was very instructive and we were reminded there are four special numbers to remember in quiltmaking
1/4---That is what your seam needs to always be!
7/8---That is how much to add to your finished square to make a perfect half square triangle.
1 and 1/4---That is how much you add to your finished square measurement to make perfect quarter square triangles
1.414....That is the number you use to determine how big to cut when you are creating setting triangles
If I can remember those numbers and what they do then I can make any block with those units!

I love my group!
Night time we did a great show and tell and then enjoyed doing out own "things" together as we chatted. I am trying to get my dimensional flowers attached to my block so I can get the summer wall hanging finished in time for the quilt show! A bit of hand sewing and then quilting and binding...shew can I get it done?
Sure!
I also spent a few hours with Alex so that his Mommy and Daddy could celebrate their third anniversary with lunch and some time together!
We did just fine and I think he just loves his Nana!

Thank goodness we had a cooler day today but of course we are warned by the "weather guessers" that it only goes up from here LOL..
Didn't get much done today but caught up on some house stuff and got the binding ready for Howard's quilt. Found out my regular machine quilter is too busy to do the quilt so I am calling a few others and hopefully will get it done sooner rather than later.
Other than that not much accomplished.
We are being buried in greens from the garden right now and DH is happy but there is only so much I can figure to do with them LOL gonna look for some recipes for all the greens...right now we have spinach, mustard greens, turnip greens and swiss chard. Plus the lettuce which isn't bad but I am seeing some readiness for bolting soon...I will post if I find a good recipe.

A New Week

Yep it's monday again...funny how that happens every week! LOL
As you can see from the pictures I had a productive weekend...got some scrapbooking and some quilting done too.
Only a few more sets of photos for the Camp Nana album and that one will be done...probably just in time for this year's version of Camp Nana!
I also really worked on Howard's Star of Bethlehem/Texas Star/Blazing Star...quilt. He has always wanted one and since we had a workshop for my group I took advantage and chose fabrics just for him. The quilt is going to be a reminder of our Cruise last fall! I picked the fabrics and colors just for that! When I create the label I will share it.
Got a walk with Belle and Jean this morning before the heat and since I played most of the weekend I am doing a sink full of dishes and need to get to the bathroom. That's what you get isn't it?

We love to celebrate holidays at home!
So we planned a cook out for the late afternoon early evening. Yum steak, brats, chicken marinated in Lawrey's Tequilla Lime Marinade...sans alcohol but with the taste! I made some
lower carb mac and cheese, and had a veggie platter from Costco. Our neighbor Bill and his son Dane joined us as Jean his wife and some of the family went to Idaho for the weekend. Bill brought some yummy baked beans he made himself.
For desert I had baked a blueberry cobbler again lower carb style and had both low carb and low fat icecream available in vanilla and bought a huge Key Lime Pie from Costco! Oh my gosh it is good.

I did work a bit on Howard's star and just need to add the outer borders of fish. I want to have special quilting done and hope Wren can fit it in her schedule...I know she can do what I want...crossing my fingers as I will want it for his birthday on the 28th!

I also started a page in the Camp Nana album of the kids cooking and ended up finishing yesterday on the 5th along with a second page from the zoo...of Penguins and Zebras.
Not much more to get done and it will be all finished.

Trying the blog thing

Thought I would try one more time to create a blog as much for myself as for others for now
I have two main creative directions in my life
1. Quilting
2. Scrapbooking
Love them both but unless I completely give up house work and cooking, I think dh thinks I have already done at times LOL, I have to create a balance in life
At the same time I love my family and love to spend time with them, especially my grandchildren, so time to do everything I want is not always what I wish.

So hello if you happen to stumble upon my musings and sharing and I am really going to give this a go!
