More Civil War Love Letter Blocks Finished!

Took me almost to the end of the month to get these six finished. I enjoyed sewing those Daisy blocks too much I guess. LOL
So what do you think of my color choices this time? I am trying not to repeat fabrics and I have plenty of blues and browns and probably greens but it is hard to NOT repeat those reds and yellow and purples.
I like all of the blocks this time but I have to admit I love the color combination of the right hand block on the second row a whole lot! It reminds me of having my Dad paint my room pink with green trim...he hated it but I loved it LOL.
I was looking ahead for the next ones I will be choosing and there are some complicated ones coming up. None of these were too hard but the red, white and blue with the flying geese luckily was paper pieced I can't imagine having to do those traditionally! YIPES!

Odds and Ends of Quilt Blocks

One of the reason's I enjoy going with DH to his conferences is the opportunity to do some catching up on my quilting or scrapbooking. This time is was quilting catch up. I caught up on two BOM's I am teaching (no pictures yet) and Carol Doak's BOM for her Yahoo group and finished up the final two blocks I should have done in December for my Civil War Love Letter group.
I took everything ready to cut and sew if I could or at least had the fabrics chosen ready to cut. Since these were small projects I was hoping I would have time to work on my Spinning Daisies quilt but alas...ended up bringing it back still all snug in it's ziploc bag! LOL
Carol Doak's Yahoo group BOM Jan. I am using Fossil Ferns and Batiks for my fabrics...I went for an Northern Lights sky and icy mountains and stream. It is very pale and I like the way the batik snowflakes fabric contrasts.
Jan. blocks for the CWLL group chosen by me as the hostess this month. I think I have a mistake to correct darn it all. and in the one bottom middle when I cut the pieces in my mind the small squares that are in the middle star were pink so when I finished the block I realized you don't see a star at all...they should have been brown so you have store of an "x" shape and I think the outside flying geese also are reversed...sigh...so I guess I will be remaking this one LOL
update: Block has been "corrected" and now looks right!
These are my Dec blocks and I will tell you I just missed completely when C told us that she had forgotten to add the seam allowance to the block on the bottom right...LOL... so it turned out perfectly 1 inch too small! LOL At least it wasn't one of the more complicated blocks...one more to remake. This isn't' looking good when I have to remake one out of 6 for two months running. I know that the flying geese block, middle top is a bit off but it's just going to stay that way LOL.
Update: the too small block has been remade and all are now correct

Some Quilt finishes!

It was time to get those Nov Civil War Love Letter blocks complete so that I don't have to rush at the last minute at the beginning of Dec.
It was my quilt friend MA's turn to choose and in following the colors etc in the book blocks there was lot's of red used in the blocks. I as usual have a few favorites and one that just looks like a "mess" but it is done correctly according to the example. I dug into my Poison Greens...just love them..and the one in the middle of the bottom row featured one the hard to use large prints and I love how it turned out. And of course there had to be "problems" that had to be fixed but unfortunately one that can't be fixed. It will probably have to be remade...sigh. I did a close up of the problem so you can see it. I was trimming the edges of the block and put my ruler down in the wrong spot and zip off went the seam allowance. I knew it immediately and just cringed

The two table runners were made right before I left for Texas with my quilt group during one of our quick project days. I did a quick turn on them and then stitched around the edges and will put in some simple ditch quilting when I have the time. The two are really close to the same size so the photo is sort of an optical illusion LOL
This is a quick and easy project and I think one will be a gift for Christmas and one to keep.

Civil War Love Letter Blocks Oct.

These are the six blocks I completed..almost...last night.
I really like the coral and purple one on the top right and Abe turned out OK but I think he is a bit funny looking where the transfer didn't quite work. The flag one was a disaster with my original choice of outside fabrics so when I got home I "fixed" it and it is much better!
Now I can go to Texas with these blocks finished!

Next CWLL Blocks Finished!

I thought this would be a good day to finish up this month's Civil War Love Letter Quilt blocks...my friend CN's choice this month.
I decided to not worry about fabric choices long ago so just picked ones that I like together. This month my favorite is probably the one bottom center with the red, black and light gold. I have been waiting to use the red print for a long time and the black works great with it to me.
For some reason the bottom left block didn't turn out the way it was supposed to...I think maybe the light connector corner squares are too big but oh well...only God is perfect and that is for sure NOT me! LOL
I like working on them but glad they are done for the month so I can get ready for Quilt Fest coming in less than two weeks.
